With the right body type and the right attitude, you can never go wrong with a designer piece. On September 9 at VUDU, Wednesday, a bevy of beauties were entertained by a play-by-play ensemble of what fierce should look like - dark, menacing, imposing and intimidating. For April Escasinas, Jason Manatad and James Cañete, the designers who hosted the event, fierce was in the form of wires, black eyeshadow, and attitude. If there had been a lion — or an entire safari backdrop — it wouldn’t have been a surprise.

When the Chiye Mori Design Library opened last May of this year, it was just the perfect venue to hold the Cebu Design Education Foundation (CDEF) Design Lecture last June 17. Advertising students, design-related courses students from San Carlos, design enthusiasts, media people, and friends of the organizers all congregated at the library de jour. I came to listen to two of the speakers of that evening: Butch Carungay and Oj Hofer.

If Wednesdays are the new Fridays, won’t that make Thursdays the new Saturdays? This Thursday, watch another gathering of people who all have one common love: fashion.
Solstitium (latin. standing still) is the designers vision for “sun standing still”. Very dramatic, I might say and gorgeous! This one night show will highlight Cebu fashion designers and Bag-Ong Tribo Band at the Wineshop, Gorordo St., Cebu. Poster above is actually a preview of this Thursday’s soiree. When Cebu’s best ateliers, maquillage gurus or wedding resources are up for scrutiny to the public eye, I can imagine why the five-star hotel was full of consumers …

Lotte Delima Edwards, a Cebuana bred fashion designer who is now based in Singapore, opened the Island Girl Collection to the public last weekend at the Summer Fashion Frolic show at Plantation Bay Resort. The entire collection is aptly named after the islands in Cebu – Hilontongan, Olango, and Santa Fe Island. Each collection says a lot about the island – mystical, enchanting and very much seductive.
Her Island Girl Collection is all breezy and lighthearted that you would love to wear them from sun up to sun down.

With the advent of haute couture blossoming into Gossip Girl aficionados, we’d rather be wearing the latest oversized headband than be caught dead with last season’s skinnies. Only a true Cebuano could actually sow influence among the few. He will make us go back to our roots and cultivate it. Dexter Alazas brought us back to old style Cebu without even moving any step backward. Before ooh-aahing his newest collection, see Dexter Alazas’ Linea Sugbuana as captured by Joseph Ong.
“LINEA SUGBUANA is my new line,” explains Dexter. “…very …
