Stylecebu Street Style | Mique Yapching
Cebu fashion designer Mique Yapching accommodated us with his candidness and tongue in chic honesty in this month’s Cebu’s Street Style. Here is his no nonsense, no fuss and no frills take on being a fashion designer in Cebu who is still in his 20s and in school. Read on.
Name: Mique Yapching
Age: 20
Occupation: student-cum-fashion designer
Single or Married: Taken

Have you always been the designer type when you were young? Were you so into dressing up, walking on runways, stealing mom’s clothes? No.. when I was a kid, I really wanted to be a scientist or an Astronaut, then I wanted to be a journalist but everything changed when I stepped into high school..
Who is your favorite local fashion designer? Edwin Ao and Ivarluski Aseron
Can you name the best shows you were in – local, international? Metrowear 100.. I got to meet a lot of people who share my passion. It was pretty intense having a lot of designers in one roof.
Is fashion designing a career or a pastime? It’s a career..
Any advice to aspiring fashion designers? Follow your dreams. Dreaming is free but the “following” part is expensive. But when you’ve reached your dreams, a lot more blessings will come to you. Always be patient. Beware of faux friends.
Fashion for less or Labels all the way? Fashion for less of course.. but labels won’t hurt either.
What would you describe the style you got going on? Style doesn’t need to shout “look at me.” A white tee is good enough for me.
Shopping/Fashion secrets. Do you have any? I make most of my clothes so I seldomly shop. I just buy basics and you don’t need an instruction manual to buy a basic shirt.

They used to call me Paris Hilton in high school. LOL!
The features I’d most get compliments from are my jawline and my behind. :p
The one thing I know now that I wish I knew before is to stick to your true friends. Now that I am in fashion, a lot of “new” friends have sprouted like daisies and they turned out to be blood-sucking vampires you wouldn’t want to kiss.
My friends say I’m mega.
I think nude photos are inspiring.. ![]()
Its sexy when a guy cries.
My biggest crush is Geoff Eignemann
I think the internet is the best invention in history.
The best part about being a designer is I get to meet a lot of famous people.
If I’m not sketching/making clothes I’m playing online games
My favorite makeup artist is Wenwen Zaspa
If I could be anywhere else in Cebu, I’d be in Banilad
You’d find mostly Lady Gaga and Katy Perry in my iPod/cd player/car stereo.
I am proud of Cebu because I am in it.
