StyleCebu Go See | Fierce Night

25 September 2009 423 views 2 Comments

With the right body type and the right attitude, you can never go wrong with a designer piece. On September 9 at VUDU, Wednesday, a bevy of beauties were entertained by a play-by-play ensemble of what fierce should look like - dark, menacing, imposing and intimidating. For April Escasinas, Jason Manatad and James Cañete, the designers who hosted the event, fierce was in the form of wires, black eyeshadow, and attitude. If there had been a lion — or an entire safari backdrop — it wouldn’t have been a surprise.

Meet the designers: April Escasinas, James Cañete, and Jason Manatad.

Below is April Escasinas‘ dress that brought out intensity that can only be found in her feminity. The soft fabric and leather reminds me of a Kevin Gauche bridal collection. They somehow bring balance to each piece that requires such equilibrium.

This Interior Design student slash designer said, “My collection is more like in Hollywood style.”

She said she was inspired with how people in Hollywood dress and style. Jason Manatad on the other note employed the art of strips and rope technique. Might I say, that was a very brave and bold move! Although it looks complicated to wear, Jason manages to make it effortless.

“Fierce means black in different shades,” said the Interior Design student of the University of San Carlos. “There are mixtures of cultures urban-american. I’ve westernized the elements.”

Jason was into designing clothes since he can remember. He discovered the fashion industry when he was in high school. “This is experimental - a trial and error thing.” He said about fashion shows.

What was essentially missing in this James Cañete collection was the accessory of a live lion. Or maybe thats why you can see its imprint evident on the pantlegs. He was going for the black, eclectic mod look, hence, the event’s name. His designs border on the unconventional with the employment of wires and feathers and all that ferocity.

James said that he is happy that a lot of Cebu fashion designers are opening their doors for newbies such as himself. What was once a fun night at the Wineshop encouraged James to do more shows in the future. He is currently calling out to fashion designers who might want to place their stamps in the fashion industry. Hey, there is always room for more talented people, right? More style sighting at the event below.

Hi! I wonder what you wore that night! :) I’m an avid fan actually. This is a good thing that you are doing - placing Cebu on a map. The map. Our map! :) Good luck with your endeavours.
